All of the fused glass jewellery and fused glass gifts available in our shop are hand-crafted in my workshop in North Wales, UK. The glass is cut by hand and fused and annealed in a kiln up to temperatures of 800°C . The piece is then cold worked on a glass grinding wheel before going back in the kiln for “fire polishing” which gives it its smooth glossy finish.
Dichroic is a special coating applied to glass which was originally developed for the space industry. It differs from other glass in that its transmitted and reflected colours are different from each other. These blend or shift according to your viewpoint or light source. It is therefore ideally suited to jewellery making as there is an infinite variety of creative possibilities.
The dichroic glass in these pieces is generally fired onto black glass leaving the pattern on the surface of the piece or under clear glass which gives a more subtle and completely different effect. Please browse this site to see jewellery currently for sale, or give me a call if you would like a custom piece of fused glass jewellery.
